Nederlandse schrijver en dichter Marieke Lucas Rijneveld (bekend van De avond is ongemak) laat via Instagram weten dat ze ‘ja’ heeft gezegd op de vraag of ze The Hill We Climb van Amanda Gorman wil vertalen. Gorman, Amerikaans dichter en activist werd in 2017 al uitgeroepen tot National Youth Poet Laureate. Ze oogstte dit jaar wereldwijd bekendheid en lof door haar voordracht van The Hill We Climb tijdens de inauguratie van Amerikaanse president Joe Biden.
Marieke Lucas Rijneveld schrijft enthousiast op haar Instagrampagina: “At a time of increasing polarization, Amanda Gorman shows in her young voice the power of Spoken word, the power of reconciliation, the power of someone who turns their eyes to the future instead of looking down. When I was asked to translate all I could do was say yes and get behind her.”
